New Delhi :The Border Security Force (BSF) marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Decision Support System (DSS) at its Force Headquarters today. The ceremony was led by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Director General of BSF.
The Decision Support System is crafted to strengthen the decision-making capabilities of commanders at all levels within BSF. It empowers commanders to plan and execute operations based on an informed decision-making process through role-based access of the system via custom-designed dashboards.
The DSS integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) with legacy operations incident databases and sensor feeds from the border, forming a Complete Operating Picture (COP) at Headquarters. This amalgamation provides advanced GIS functionalities for effective operational planning. The system facilitates monitoring and predictive analysis along with trend analysis, thereby enhancing BSF’s capabilities for effective border management.
One of the system’s notable attributes is its ability to perform Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) operations on GIS and legacy data. This aids in predicting smuggling hotspots and infiltration routes, contributing to better resource allocation and operational planning and execution.
The DSS is expected to operationally benefit BSF by improving its border management capabilities, enabling the force to safeguard India’s borders and protect national interests more effectively. Future plans include integration of DSS with the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS), other BSF Command Centres, GIS platforms of other security forces, and mobile applications for real-time data collection and incident reporting.
Additionally, there are plans to integrate the DSS with other data sources such as Open Source Intelligence (OSINT), BIG DATA, and India Meteorological Department (IMD) data in its next phase. By harnessing this technological solution, BSF aims to address emerging threats to border security more adeptly. The DSS is poised to play a pivotal role in enabling commanders to make informed decisions, thereby fortifying India’s border security framework.
The launch of the DSS underscores BSF’s commitment to adopting technology for augmenting its operational prowess and securing India’s borders.
