Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is set to undertake a significant diplomatic tour to India, Singapore, and China from October 12 to October 17, 2025, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation under Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
During her visit to India, Minister Anand will meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi, focusing on establishing a framework for strategic cooperation in areas like trade diversification, energy transformation, and security.
She’ll also engage with Canadian and Indian firms in Mumbai to promote investment, job creation, and economic opportunities in both countries, highlighting Mumbai’s role as India’s financial capital.
Her itinerary also includes Singapore, where she’ll meet Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, marking 60 years of diplomatic relations and discussing progress on the Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement. In China, talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi will cover the Canada-China Strategic Partnership, celebrating 55 years of diplomatic ties.
“For Canada to be strong at home, we need strong, stable partnerships abroad. I am building bridges and increasing cooperation with India, Singapore and China. In line with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, I will be working to advance efforts to position Canada as a trusted, reliable partner of choice for Indo-Pacific countries and their economies,” said Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Canada and India share over 75 years of diplomatic relations, with strong people-to-people ties. India is expected to become the world’s fourth largest economy in 2025; Canada aims to strengthen ties in agriculture, critical minerals, and energy. In 2024, India was Canada’s seventh-largest trading partner, with two-way trade of $33.9 billion. Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, launched in 2022, focuses on security, trade, sustainability, and regional engagement, deepening partnerships for shared prosperity.
This tour reflects Canada’s efforts to enhance partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, following recent diplomatic engagements like Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney at the G7 Summit in June 2025.
