Centre Approves Additional Assistance for Flood-Hit Assam and Gujarat

The Government of India has approved additional Central assistance totalling Rs. 707.97 crore for Assam and Gujarat, states affected by floods and landslides in 2024, under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). The approval was made by a High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah.
Assam is set to receive Rs. 313.69 crore, while Gujarat will get Rs. 394.28 crore for relief efforts related to the calamities. This assistance is subject to adjustment of 50% of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
The HLC also sanctioned Rs. 903.67 crore for Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan under NDRF for expansion and modernisation of fire services, with Rs. 676.33 crore being Central assistance. Haryana will receive Rs. 117.19 crore, Madhya Pradesh Rs. 397.54 crore, and Rajasthan Rs. 388.94 crore for this purpose.
This additional aid is over and above funds already released to states through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
During the financial year 2025-26, the Central Government has released Rs. 13,603.20 crore to 27 states under SDRF and Rs. 2,024.04 crore under NDRF to 12 states. Additionally, Rs. 4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) has been released to 21 states and Rs. 372.09 crore from National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to 9 states.
