CISF Officer Geeta Samota Makes History on Mount Everest

Lady Sub-Inspector Geeta Samota of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has become the first CISF officer to successfully summit Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak at 8,849 meters. She achieved this monumental feat on May 19, 2025, standing on the “roof of the world” and symbolizing not just a personal victory but also the resilience and strength of the CISF and the Indian nation.

Geeta’s journey to Everest began in her hometown of Chak village in Rajasthan’s Sikar district, where she was born into a modest family with four sisters. She was a promising hockey player in college but joined the CISF in 2011 after an injury forced her to step away from sports. It was here that she discovered her passion for mountaineering.

Geeta’s mountaineering career is marked by numerous achievements. Some of her notable climbs include Mount Satopanth (7,075 meters) in Uttarakhand and Mount Lobuche (6,119 meters) in Nepal. She also successfully summited four of the Seven Summits: Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 meters) in Australia, Mount Elbrus (5,642 meters) in Russia, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 meters) in Tanzania, and Mount Aconcagua (6,961 meters) in Argentina.

Geeta’s achievement has inspired countless young Indians, and her message is simple: “dream big, work hard, and never give up.” The CISF has been a steadfast supporter of her endeavors, providing opportunities and financial backing for her expeditions.

Geeta has received notable honors for her achievements, including the International Women’s Day 2023 Award by the Delhi Commission for Women and the “Giving Wings to Dreams Award 2023” by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The CISF plans to send a full mountaineering team to scale Mount Everest in 2026, furthering Geeta’s accomplishment. Her extraordinary journey and successful summit shine as a beacon of inspiration for the youth of India and stand as a moment of immense pride for the entire Central Armed Police Forces fraternity.
