DRDO Successfully Conducts Flight-Tests of Pralay Missile

New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone in the development of the Pralay missile system. On July 28 and 29, 2025, the DRDO conducted two consecutive successful flight-tests of the Pralay missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.

The flight tests were carried out as part of User Evaluation Trials to validate the maximum and minimum range capability of the missile system. The missiles precisely followed the intended trajectory and reached the target point with pin-point accuracy, meeting all test objectives. All subsystems performed as expected, verified using test data captured by various tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR).

The Pralay missile is indigenously developed solid propellant quasi-ballistic missile employing state-of-the-art guidance and navigation. The missile is capable of carrying multiple types of warheads against various targets. With its modern technologies, the Pralay missile will give a further technological boost to the Armed Forces against threats.

The system has been developed by Research Centre Imarat in collaboration with other DRDO labs and industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited. The successful flight-tests are a testament to the collaboration between DRDO and the industry.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has complimented DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the industry for the successful flight-tests. “The missile equipped with modern technologies will give further technological boost to the Armed Forces against threats,” he said. Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the teams, stating that the successful completion of this phase-1 flight tests paves the way for induction of the system into the Armed Forces in the near future.

The successful flight-tests of the Pralay missile mark a significant achievement for DRDO and the Indian defence industry. The Pralay missile system will enhance the capabilities of the Armed Forces and provide a technological edge against threats. With its successful development and induction, the Pralay missile system will play a crucial role in India’s defence strategy.
