Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s Visit to Nepal Aims to Boost Bilateral Cooperation

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, paid an official visit to Nepal from August 17-18, 2025. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries under India’s Neighbourhood First policy.

During his visit, Misri met with top Nepalese leaders, including President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba. Misri conveyed greetings from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and handed over a formal invitation for Oli to visit India.

Misri also met with Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff, General Ashok Raj Sigdel, and handed over defense stores and equipment, including Light Strike Vehicles (LSVs), critical care medical equipment, and military animals.

The visit highlighted the progress made in diverse areas of bilateral cooperation, including physical connectivity, digital connectivity, defence and security, and energy cooperation. The two sides noted with satisfaction the concrete progress in recent years in these areas.

The visit demonstrated India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy, prioritizing Nepal as a key partner. Regular high-level exchanges between the two countries are expected to further advance bilateral ties.
