German Parliamentary State Secretary Saathoff Strengthens India Ties, Opens Wind Energy Fair
Parliamentary State Secretary Johann Saathoff, accompanied by a business delegation, is in India this week to bolster cooperation between German and Indian companies in the renewable energy sector. With India targeting 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, the visit aims to enhance investment opportunities and forge strategic partnerships, particularly in wind, solar, and bioenergy.
Saathoff held talks in Chennai with Indian wind energy firms and associations on October 29, emphasizing Germany’s commitment to supporting India’s green transition. On October 30, he inaugurated the *Windergy India 2025* trade fair – the largest international wind energy event in the country – alongside Indian government and industry leaders at the Chennai Trade Centre (runs till November 1, 2025). The event is expected to draw global attention to India’s wind energy potential and facilitate key partnerships.
On October 31, in New Delhi, Saathoff and the delegation will meet Indian companies, government officials, and stakeholders from solar, bioenergy, and energy storage sectors. Discussions will also focus on skill development and labor migration to address sectoral growth needs, ensuring a skilled workforce for India’s expanding renewables landscape.
Germany stands as a trusted partner for India, especially in scaling renewables to meet ambitious 2030 targets. The collaboration is seen as key to building resilient global supply chains, reducing dependencies, and boosting competitiveness through a model of “German engineering, Indian manufacturing.” The *India-Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide*, launched in 2024 at RE Invest Gujarat, is now activating working groups on solar energy, wind energy, battery storage, and R&D – a framework both nations invite stakeholders to leverage for sustainable investments.
“Germany’s government, companies, associations, and R&D institutions are ready for even closer cooperation with India,” Saathoff emphasized, extending an open hand to Indian partners to enhance frameworks for investments and drive mutual growth in renewables.
The visit underscores Germany’s commitment to India’s energy transition, aligning with global climate goals. As both nations work toward a robust green partnership, the groundwork laid here could shape future clean energy investments and technological synergies, complementing broader EU-India trade negotiations targeting a December 2025 FTA deadline.
The Windergy India 2025 fair is a critical platform for international collaboration, expected to draw industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore joint ventures and green technologies.
