India and Bangladesh Agree to Enhance Border Security

The 56th Director General Level Border Co-ordination Conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) concluded on August 28, 2025, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The conference, held from August 25 to 28, 2025, aimed to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two border guarding forces.
The Indian delegation was headed by Director General BSF Daljit Singh Chawdhary, and the Bangladesh delegation was headed by Director General BGB Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui.
The discussions focused on various issues, including prevention of trans-border crimes, border infrastructure, coordinated border management plan, confidence-building measures, and trans-border insurgent groups. Both sides agreed to undertake joint efforts to curb trans-border crimes, such as smuggling of narcotics, firearms, and gold.
The two sides emphasized the importance of the Coordinated Border Management Plan in curbing smuggling and other trans-border crimes and agreed to remain cautious and steadfast in its implementation. They also agreed to take effective steps to sensitize the border populace to refrain from violating the international border and engage in confidence-building measures.
Both sides agreed to show zero tolerance towards trans-border insurgent groups or activities and take concurrent action in their respective borders based on real-time information.
The conference concluded with both sides expressing satisfaction over the outcome and reiterating their commitment to work jointly for maintaining peace and tranquility at the border. The next DG-level conference is provisionally scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, in March 2026.
The BSF and BGB have been holding Director General-level border coordination conferences twice a year, alternating between India and Bangladesh. The conferences provide a platform for both nations to discuss border-related issues and strengthen cooperation between their border guarding forces.
