New Delhi: The Government of India has expressed willingness to cooperate with Bangladesh in preserving the ancestral property of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. The property, belonging to Ray’s grandfather Upendra Kishor Ray Chowdhury, is being demolished, sparking concern.

The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that given the building’s landmark status symbolizing Bangla cultural renaissance, it would be preferable to reconsider demolition and examine options for repair and reconstruction as a museum of literature and a symbol of shared culture between India and Bangladesh. India would be willing to extend cooperation for this purpose.

The property holds great cultural significance as a symbol of Bengal’s rich literary and cultural heritage. Satyajit Ray’s contributions to Indian cinema and the Ray family’s legacy in Bengali literature and arts have left an enduring impact.

The Indian government’s offer awaits a response from Bangladesh, sparking hope for collaborative efforts to save this historic property and honor the literary and cultural contributions of the Ray family.
