India Reiterates Commitment to Afghanistan’s Development, Security

Dubai: In a big diplomatic development, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Dubai today.
During the meeting, Misri reiterated India’s long-standing commitment to supporting the people of Afghanistan. He emphasized India’s historic friendship with Afghanistan and the strong people-to-people contacts between the two nations. Misri also conveyed India’s readiness to respond to the urgent developmental needs of the Afghan people.

The two sides engaged in discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations, including ongoing Indian humanitarian assistance programs in Afghanistan. The Afghan Minister expressed gratitude for India’s continued support, particularly in the areas of food security, healthcare, and education.

India has been actively engaged in providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, with several shipments of essential supplies, including 50,000 MTs of wheat, 300 tons of medicines, and 100 million polio doses, among others. In response to the Afghan side’s request, India will provide further material support to the health sector and for the rehabilitation of refugees.

The meeting also explored opportunities for strengthening cooperation in various areas, including sports, trade, and commerce. The two sides agreed to promote the use of Chabahar port for supporting trade and commercial activities, including humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan.

The Afghan side reiterated its sensitivity to India’s security concerns, and both sides agreed to maintain regular contacts at various levels. This meeting marks a significant step forward in India-Afghanistan relations, with a renewed focus on cooperation, development, and mutual understanding.
