Indian Coast Guard Executes Daring Rescue of Stranded USA Sailing Vessel

New Delhi:;In a remarkable display of maritime rescue expertise, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued the USA sailing vessel Sea Angel, which was stranded in turbulent seas south-east of Indira Point, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Port Blair received a distress alert from the Sea Angel, a 16 x 8-meter yacht carrying two crew members. The vessel was disabled, with a blown sail and entangled propeller, in extremely rough conditions, approximately 52 nautical miles south-east of Indira Point. Acting swiftly, MRCC Port Blair activated the International Safety Net (ISN), alerting nearby merchant vessels and launching rescue coordination protocols.
ICGS Rajveer was deployed to render immediate assistance to the stranded vessel. After navigating through challenging weather conditions.The ICG personnel established communication with the crew, conducted an on-site assessment, and found them safe and in good health despite the mechanical disablement and heavy winds.
The Sea Angel was safely taken under tow by ICGS Rajveer, and the vessel was escorted to Campbell Bay. The Indian Coast Guard’s prompt response and expert handling of the situation ensured the safety of the crew and the vessel. The successful rescue operation highlights the ICG’s capabilities in responding to maritime distress situations, even in challenging weather conditions.
