INS Savitri Arrives in Mauritius, Enhancing Bilateral Defence Cooperation

Port Louis, Mauritius: Indian Naval Ship (INS) Savitri, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Eastern Fleet, has arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, as part of a Long-Range Operational Deployment to the South West Indian Ocean Region. The ship received a warm welcome from the National Coast Guard of Mauritius, setting the tone for a series of joint maritime activities aimed at bolstering security and cooperation between the two nations.
Joint EEZ Surveillance & Interoperability
During its port call, INS Savitri will conduct crucial joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance activities alongside the Mauritius National Coast Guard (NCG) ships and aircraft. This collaboration is designed to ensure security across the maritime zones of Mauritius while enhancing interoperability and coordination between the Indian Navy and the Mauritius NCG.
Training, Sports, and Community Engagement
The ship’s crew will engage in professional interactions with the NCG, including dedicated training sessions to refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for joint operations. To foster camaraderie, personnel from both navies will participate in friendly sports. Additionally, INS Savitri will be open for visitors, promoting awareness of maritime defence among the local community and strengthening people-to-people ties.
The visit reaffirms the strong defence cooperation between India and Mauritius—a partnership built on mutual trust, shared values, and common maritime interests. Through such engagements, both nations aim to ensure a secure and stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean region.
