Jaishankar Meets Chinese Counterpart, Discusses Border Management and Trade

Beijing: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on July 14, 2025. The meeting aimed to strengthen India-China ties and discuss various issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the state of India-China bilateral relations and noted the recent progress made by the two sides to stabilize and rebuild ties. They emphasized people-centric engagements, including activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Dr. Jaishankar appreciated China’s cooperation in resuming the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra and both sides agreed to facilitate people-to-people exchanges through travel and direct flight connectivity.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the importance of peace and tranquility in the border regions for smooth development of bilateral relations. He supported continued efforts towards de-escalation and border management, and emphasized the need for cooperation on trans-border rivers, including the resumption of hydrological data sharing by China.

The ministers discussed regional and global issues of common interest, with Dr. Jaishankar expressing India’s support for China’s successful SCO Presidency. He also raised concerns about restrictive trade measures and roadblocks to economic cooperation.

The discussions between the two ministers were constructive and forward-looking, with both sides agreeing to remain in touch through bilateral visits and meetings. Dr. Jaishankar also met with China’s Vice President Han Zheng and Minister Liu Jianchao, and will attend the Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin.
