Operation Sindoor Showcases India’s Home-Grown Defence Strength: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized India’s growing self-reliance in defence capabilities, citing Operation Sindoor as a testament to the nation’s ability to counter threats with indigenous strength. While laying the foundation stone for BEML Rail Hub for Manufacturing (BRAHMA) in Madhya Pradesh on August 10, 2025, Singh highlighted the operation’s success in retaliating against the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
The operation demonstrated India’s decisive response, sending a clear message that it will no longer tolerate attacks on its integrity and sovereignty. Singh attributed India’s progress in defence to the nation’s commitment to becoming self-reliant, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for transforming the defence sector.
India’s defence production has reached new heights, with annual production soaring to Rs 1.51 lakh crore and defence exports touching a record Rs 23,622 crore in the Financial Year 2024-25. Singh emphasized that India’s defence sector is evolving, with increased production and exports showcasing the nation’s capabilities.
Singh also highlighted India’s economic growth, with the nation poised to become the third-largest economy globally, growing at a rate of about 6.5%. He expressed confidence in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, driven by the government’s persistent efforts.
The BRAHMA facility, spread across 148 acres, will be developed as a world-class manufacturing unit for rolling stock. Expected to be completed in two years, it will manufacture advanced rolling stock, including Vande Bharat trainsets and high-speed rail coaches, for domestic and export markets. The facility is expected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and catalyze local supply chains and MSMEs in Madhya Pradesh. BEML plans to invest Rs 1,800 crore in the facility, scaling up production capacity to 1,100 coaches annually within five years.
