The OCI scheme was introduced in 2005 to register Persons of Indian Origin as Overseas Citizens of India. The existing OCI Services portal was developed in 2013, but the new portal has been developed to address existing limitations and enhance user experience, incorporating feedback from OCI cardholders and leveraging technological advancements over the past decade.

The new OCI portal is expected to improve the overall experience for OCI cardholders and facilitate their interactions with Indian authorities.
