New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the formation of a multi-sectoral central team to address the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh. The decision comes after a recent meeting where it was observed that the state has witnessed a surge in cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and torrential rainfall, resulting in significant loss of life and damage to infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment.

The central team will comprise experts from National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, Geologist, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore.

The Central Government has already taken proactive measures, including deploying an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess damages and provide support. The team is visiting the affected areas from July 18-21, 2025.

A high-level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved an outlay of Rs. 2006.40 crore for recovery and reconstruction efforts in areas affected by disasters like floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. The Central Government has released Rs. 451.44 crore as the first installment and Rs. 198.80 crore to Himachal Pradesh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for immediate relief measures.

The government has also deployed 13 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for rescue and relief operations and provided logistic assistance, including Army and Air Force support. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government stands firmly with the states in times of disasters without any discrimination.
