Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics Form Strategic Partnership

Mumbai: Reliance Defence Limited, has announced a strategic agreement with Coastal Mechanics Inc., a leading U.S. Department of Defense authorized contractor. The partnership aims to jointly address India’s INR 20,000 crore defence maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO), and upgrade market opportunity.
Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics will focus on providing end-to-end MRO, upgrade, and lifecycle support solutions for the Indian Armed Forces. The partnership will target a wide range of critical platforms, including Jaguar and MiG-29 fighter aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, and L-70 air defence guns.
As per press statement, the two companies will set up a Joint Venture (JV) at MIHAN in Maharashtra to serve both the Indian market and export markets. The JV will provide complete MRO and upgrade services for various air and land defence platforms used by the armed forces.
Reliance Defence Limited in a statement said that the partnership represents a significant step in advancing the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, aimed at indigenising defence production and reducing reliance on imports. Reliance Defence aims to become one of India’s top three defence exporters.
Coastal Mechanics is a DoD-approved contractor with clearances to access critical data. The company has been supporting armament and defense obsolescence issues through US Army/USAF FMS cases and has completed thousands of contractual engagements for the manufacture and supply of spare parts.
As per Reliance group, the partnership between Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics is expected to bring world-class manufacturing capabilities and global certifications into India’s aerospace ecosystem, promoting indigenous defence production and reducing reliance on imports.
