Russia and India Discuss Film Production Cooperation at SPIEF 2025

Moscow: Russia’s Minister of Culture, Olga Lyubimova, met with India’s Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on the sidelines of the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2025) on June 19. The meeting focused on exploring avenues for bilateral cooperation, particularly in film production.
As per Russian Embassy, Olga Lyubimova highlighted the wealth of experience that both Russian and Indian filmmakers possess, emphasizing the potential for mutual benefit through collaboration. She noted that the recent World Audio-Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES 2025) in Mumbai has provided a significant boost to Russia-India ties in cinema and media.
The joint film project “Pearl,” shot in India last year, is currently in its final stages of production. This project demonstrates the growing cooperation between Russia and India in the film industry.
Russia’s Minister of Culture extended an invitation to her Indian counterparts to participate in the First Eurasian Film Award “Diamond Butterfly,” scheduled for late November. This event aims to promote cinematic excellence and foster cooperation between nations in the film industry.
The meeting between the two ministers underscores the growing interest in collaboration between Russia and India in the field of film production, with potential for further joint projects and initiatives in the future.
The St Petersburg International Economic Forum is one of the world’s leading platforms for global economic dialogue and fostering business cooperation. This year’s forum, running from June 18 to 21, focuses on charting a path toward sustainable development amid mounting global uncertainty. The program features over 150 events covering pressing issues such as digital transformation, green economy, healthcare, regional development, and technological innovation. Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to deliver a keynote address during the forum’s plenary session.
