New Delhi: The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, will unveil the National Cooperative Policy 2025 on July 24 at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan in New Delhi. This policy is expected to be a milestone in India’s cooperative movement for the next two decades, from 2025 to 2045.
The National Cooperative Policy 2025 aims to revive and modernize the cooperative sector, create a roadmap at the grassroots level, and foster large-scale employment. The policy will focus on strengthening cooperative institutions, promoting prosperity through cooperation, and generating employment and livelihood opportunities, especially in rural India.
The policy includes key initiatives such as establishing cooperatives in every village, setting up 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) by February 2026, digitizing over 65,000 PACS, and creating a National Cooperative Database.
A 48-member national-level committee, headed by former Union Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, prepared the National Cooperative Policy. The committee included members from national and state cooperative federations, cooperative societies, government representatives, and academicians. The committee held 17 meetings and four regional workshops, incorporating 648 valuable suggestions from stakeholders.
