India-Germany Climate Talk Puts Green Industrial Partnerships at Center of Growth Strategy

New Delhi:The German Embassy in New Delhi hosted the latest edition of its Climate Talk series on Wednesday, with leaders from government, industry, and research focusing on industrial decarbonization and green growth under the theme “Partnering for Industrial Green Transition.”

The discussion brought together senior policymakers, industry executives, and sustainability experts to explore how India-Germany and India-EU cooperation can accelerate low-carbon manufacturing and strengthen supply chains. Held at the German Embassy, the session addressed balancing climate goals with economic resilience, energy security, and competitiveness.

German Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Dr. Philipp Ackermann, opened and moderated the event. “India and Germany share a strong foundation of trust, innovation and industrial cooperation,” he said. “As the global economy moves towards cleaner growth models, our partnership can help build resilient green industries and sustainable supply chains for the future.”

Ackermann added that India is “uniquely positioned to become a major global partner in green manufacturing and clean technologies,” noting that closer cooperation with Germany and the European Union can drive industrial decarbonization while creating jobs and long-term economic resilience.

The panel included Dr. Heike Henn, Director General for International Climate Action at Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety; Anandi Iyer, Director of the Fraunhofer Representative Office India; and Nishant Arya, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of JBM Group and Chair of the CII Europe–India Council.

Dr. Henn stressed the policy side of industrial transition. “The transition towards low-carbon industry will only succeed if it is environmentally sustainable, economically viable and socially beneficial at the same time,” she said. “Governments must create stable and predictable policy frameworks that give businesses the confidence to invest in green technologies.” She pointed to India and Germany’s shared experience in clean manufacturing, carbon markets, and industrial decarbonization, and called for stronger cooperation among governments, industry, and research institutions.

Iyer highlighted the role of applied science and Indo-German research partnerships in scaling green solutions. Arya offered an industry view, focusing on sustainable mobility, clean manufacturing ecosystems, and India’s potential to emerge as a global leader in clean tech and electric mobility.

Panelists agreed that deeper collaboration across government, industry, and applied research can speed the shift to low-carbon industrial systems while boosting economic resilience and competitiveness. The discussion underlined India’s growing role as a hub for green manufacturing and the need for resilient, diversified global supply chains amid shifting geopolitics.
