Kashmiris in PoK Resist Terror Ecosystem, Push Back Against Terrorists Groups

In a significant development, Kashmiris in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have started pushing back against the terror ecosystem, rejecting terror groups and their activities. A recent incident in Kuiyaan village, PoK, highlights this growing resistance.
Rizwan Hanif, a commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, faced severe backlash from locals in Kuiyaan village. Hanif, who fled with his armed companions, was met with public outrage when he attempted to attend the funeral of Habib Tahir.
Habib Tahir believed to be one of the three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalagam attack. He was killed in a joint operation called “Operation Mahadev” on July 22, 2025.
The residents of Kuiyaan village plan to hold a public Jirga to collectively respond to terror recruitment and activities. This move signifies a growing determination among locals to reject terrorist groups and their ideology.
There are signs of a shift in state policy, with recent police action against events organized by terrorists and reduced public activity by such groups. Authorities have denied permission for a conference in Khurahat, Tehsil Hari Ghehl, District Bagh, citing concerns over public safety and the presence of armed individuals.
The incident highlights a growing resistance among Kashmiris in PoK against terror groups. The family’s decision to bar the terrorist group from attending Habib Tahir’s funeral in absentia, despite Rizwan Hanif’s attempt to attend, demonstrates a clear rejection of militant ideology.
The authorities have taken steps to ensure public safety, directing the SDM Hari Ghel and SHO City Bagh to enforce the ban on the conference and prevent such programs from being held.
This development marks a significant step towards reducing the influence of militant groups in PoK and promoting peace and stability in the region.
