INS Sandhayak Docks in Singapore, Strengthening Maritime Ties

New Delhi; Indian Naval Ship Sandhayak, the first indigenous Survey Vessel Large (SVL) with cutting-edge hydrography capabilities, docked at Changi Naval Base in Singapore on August 9, 2025, coinciding with Singapore’s National Day. The three-day visit aims to bolster bilateral hydrographic ties between the Indian Navy and Singapore’s maritime agencies.

The visit reaffirms India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation and demonstrates its growing leadership in maritime diplomacy and regional hydrographic capacity building. INS Sandhayak’s state-of-the-art capabilities include full-scale coastal and deep-water surveying, as well as SAR/humanitarian operations with onboard helicopter and hospital functions.

During the visit, the Indian Navy will engage in technical and professional exchanges with Singapore’s maritime agencies, facilitating knowledge sharing and cooperation. The Commanding Officer will pay courtesy calls on Gary Chew, Assistant Chief Hydrographer, Singapore, and Colonel Chauah Meng Soon, Commander 9th Flotilla, Royal Singapore Navy (RSN).

The visit also includes a showcase of the ship’s hydrographic capabilities, with Royal Singapore Navy personnel visiting onboard. Additionally, school children and families of the Office of High Commissioner of India (HCI) will be invited onboard, promoting awareness and engagement with the local community.

Commissioned in February 2024, INS Sandhayak is a significant addition to the Indian Navy’s hydrographic capabilities. The ship’s advanced features and capabilities make it an invaluable asset for the Indian Navy’s hydrographic operations. The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening maritime cooperation and building regional partnerships.
