India-Thailand Joint Military Exercise Maitree-XIV Begins in Meghalaya

The 14th edition of the India-Thailand joint military exercise, Maitree-XIV, kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at the Joint Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya. The exercise, scheduled from September 1 to 14, 2025, aims to bolster cooperation and interoperability between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army.
The joint exercise will focus on counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban terrain, as outlined under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The two-week program will include a range of activities, such as tactical drills, joint planning, and raiding operations, culminating in a 48-hour validation exercise.
This exercise is part of the ongoing military-to-military exchange program between India and Thailand, highlighting the strong defence ties between the two nations. The Maitree exercise series, initiated in 2006, serves as a platform for both armies to enhance their mutual understanding and cooperation.
The Indian Army contingent consists of 120 personnel from the Madras Regiment, while the Royal Thai Army contingent comprises 53 personnel from the 1st Infantry Battalion, 14th Infantry Brigade. The exercise reflects the shared commitment of both armies towards maintaining peace and stability in the region.
