ITBP All-Women Expedition Triumphs on Mount Nun

New Delhi: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) marked a momentous occasion with a grand flag-in ceremony at its headquarters today, celebrating the remarkable achievement of its all-women mountaineering expedition team that conquered Mount Nun (7,135 meters) in Ladakh on August 14, 2025.

The ceremony was attended by Govind Mohan, Home Secretary, Government of India, who served as the Chief Guest.

Rahul Rasgotra, Director General of ITBP, underscored the significance of this expedition where 14 women mountaineers, led by Assistant Commandant Bhanita, successfully summited Mount Nun. This feat not only adds a distinguished chapter to ITBP’s legacy of mountaineering excellence but also stands as a prominent milestone in the journey of women empowerment.

Govind Mohan, the Chief Guest, honored the valiant women mountaineers with cash awards, commending their exceptional grit, determination, and unwavering spirit. He emphasized ITBP’s consistent leadership in mountaineering and reiterated the Ministry of Home Affairs’ commitment to promoting such adventurous expeditions and sports activities.

Mount Nun, situated in Kargil, is renowned for its formidable terrain characterized by steep ice-rock formations, crevassed glaciers, and unpredictable weather patterns, rendering this achievement all the more extraordinary.

With a proud tradition of mountaineering accomplishments, ITBP has scaled six of the world’s 14 eight-thousander peaks, including Everest and Kanchenjunga. This expedition’s success establishes a new benchmark of excellence in high-altitude mountaineering, inspiring future generations.
