Keir Starmer’s First India Visit Aims for Deeper Economic, Tech Tie

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is scheduled to arrive in India on October 8-9, 2025, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking his first official visit to the country. This significant trip underscores the growing strategic partnership between India and the UK.
Prime Minister Starmer’s visit aims to review progress under the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership aligned with ‘Vision 2035’, a 10-year roadmap focusing on key areas such as trade and investment, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate and energy, health, education, and people-to-people relations.
The discussions on October 9 in Mumbai will explore opportunities presented by the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), central to future economic ties, potentially offering duty-free access on 99% of tariff lines.
Both leaders will attend the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where they will deliver keynote addresses and engage with industry experts, policymakers, and innovators, highlighting collaboration in fintech and digital sectors. They are also expected to exchange views on regional and global matters of mutual interest, reinforcing cooperation between the two nations.
This visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to the UK on July 23-24, 2025, building on recent momentum in bilateral relations. The engagement is anticipated to reaffirm India and the UK’s shared vision for a forward-looking partnership, deepening bilateral ties, enhancing trade and investment, and fostering collaboration in critical sectors.
The strengthening relationship between India and the UK is poised to unlock new opportunities for economic growth, technological advancement, and cultural exchange, reflecting the strategic importance of this visit.
