Largest Naxal Surrender in India’s History: Over 140 Cadres Lay Down Arms

In a significant breakthrough against Left-Wing Extremism, more than 140 Naxal cadres, including top leaders, have surrendered in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. This massive surrender follows the recent laying down of arms by their leader, Bhupathi, who carried a ₹1 crore bounty on his head.
The surrendering Naxals, affiliated with the dreaded Bhupathi gang, are being escorted to Jagdalpur, where they will formally surrender before Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today. Among those surrendering is Rupesh, spokesperson of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), who played a pivotal role in formulating Naxal strategies and issuing official statements.
Massive security arrangements have been put in place across the region to ensure smooth transportation and security. Personnel from the CRPF, CoBRA, DRG, and other elite forces have been deployed, with the Bijapur–Jagdalpur route heavily guarded and armed personnel stationed at every checkpoint.
This historic surrender marks a significant blow to the Naxal movement, with officials believing it will structurally and strategically weaken the organization. The government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy have been instrumental in encouraging Naxals to lay down arms.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will attend the grand surrender ceremony in Jagdalpur, where over 140 Naxals will surrender along with more than 100 weapons. “We will welcome them with a red carpet. This surrender is the result of the government’s policies and developmental works under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” the Chief Minister stated.
The successful anti-Naxal operation comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Chhattisgarh on October 31 and November 1, where he will participate in the State Foundation Day celebrations.
