Maritime Security Seminar Concludes with Call for Enhanced Collaboration and Information Sharing

The Maritime Security Seminar, held as part of the Maritime Information Sharing Workshop (MISW) 25, concluded on November 4, 2025. The seminar, themed “Enhancing Real-Time Coordination and Information Sharing Across the Indian Ocean Region,” brought together over 57 participants from 30 countries, including representatives from IORA, DCoC/JA, and BIMSTEC.
The seminar featured addresses by prominent officials, including Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, and Sushil Mansil Khopde, IPS, Additional Director General, Directorate General of Shipping. The discussions focused on regional security dynamics, information networks, operational coordination, maritime law, industry perspectives, and transnational maritime crime.
Importance of Collaboration and Technology
The seminar underscored the importance of technological integration, data interoperability, and collective commitment in building a resilient and responsive maritime security framework. Rear Admiral Nirbhay Bapna emphasized the need for synergy among regional information-sharing frameworks and reaffirmed that collaboration and sustained dialogue remain central to ensuring a safe and secure maritime domain.
The MISW-25 will feature a Table Top Exercise (TTX) on November 5, 2025, at IFC-IOR, where participants will put into practice the principles of information sharing, interoperability, and coordinated response through simulated maritime security scenarios. The exercise will utilize the indigenously developed Maritime Analytical Tool for Regional Awareness (MANTRA) software and focus on multi-agency coordination, rapid information sharing, and synchronized response planning.
The TTX aims to refine real-time information sharing in achieving coherent maritime security outcomes and expose participants to the complex dynamics of maritime incident reporting.
