Modi Calls for Transformative Policing to Meet Aspirations of Developing India

Raipur – Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 60th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police at the Indian Institute of Management, Raipur, highlighting the need for transformative policing to meet the aspirations of a developing nation. The three-day conference, themed ‘Viksit Bharat: Security Dimensions’, brought together top police officials to discuss national security matters.

In his address, PM Modi stressed the urgent need to transform public perception of the police, particularly among the youth, by enhancing professionalism, sensitivity, and responsiveness. He emphasized strengthening urban policing, reinvigorating tourist police, and increasing public awareness regarding new laws replacing colonial-era criminal laws.

The Prime Minister directed police forces to adopt innovative strategies for integrating uninhabited islands, utilize databases integrated under NATGRID, and link these systems through Artificial Intelligence to generate actionable intelligence. He also called for encouraging universities to undertake case studies on forensic applications in police investigations.

PM Modi reiterated the importance of establishing mechanisms for monitoring banned outfits, ensuring holistic development of areas freed from Left Wing Extremism, and adopting innovative models to strengthen coastal security. He emphasized a Whole-of-Government approach to tackle drug abuse, bringing together enforcement, rehabilitation, and community-level intervention.

The conference witnessed discussions on a long-term Roadmap for Policing towards Vision 2047, counter-terrorism, women’s safety, and strengthening forensic capabilities. PM Modi distributed the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and presented awards to the three best-performing cities in urban policing.

The Prime Minister underscored the need for stronger preparedness and coordination, urging Police Chiefs to reinforce mechanisms for effective disaster management. He emphasized proactive planning, real-time coordination, and prompt response to safeguard lives and ensure minimal disruption during natural emergencies.

PM Modi called upon police leadership to realign policing to meet the aspirations of a developing nation on the path to becoming a Viksit Bharat. The conference was attended by Union Home Minister, National Security Advisor, and other senior officials.
