NSA Doval’s Canada Talks Focus on Security Cooperation

Ottawa: India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met with Canadian officials on February 6-7, 2026, to discuss bilateral security cooperation. Doval held talks with Nathalie Drouin, Deputy Clerk and National Security and Intelligence Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada, and Gary Anandasangaree, Minister for Public Safety of Canada.
India and Canada agreed to establish security and law-enforcement liaison officers to enhance communication and information sharing on issues like transnational crime and fentanyl trafficking. Both countries committed to formalizing cooperation on cybersecurity policy and information sharing. They also agreed to continue discussions on cooperation related to fraud and immigration enforcement, consistent with domestic laws and international obligations.
The two sides acknowledged progress on initiatives aimed at supporting the safety and security of their countries and citizens. They agreed to a shared workplan to guide bilateral cooperation on national security and law enforcement issues.
During the meeting, it was reiterated that violent extremist groups do not enjoy the support of the Government of Canada. This understanding underscores the commitment of both countries to combat terrorism and extremism.
Doval’s visit was part of a regular bilateral security dialogue between India and Canada, aimed at strengthening ties and addressing common security concerns.
