India, Germany Hold Foreign Office Consultations in Berlin; Mark 75 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Berlin: India and Germany held Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) in Berlin on Monday, reviewing bilateral ties and exploring ways to deepen the Strategic Partnership as the two countries commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

The talks were co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Dr. Géza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary of the German Foreign Office. During the visit, Misri also met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

The year marks 75 years of India-Germany diplomatic ties, after the two sides celebrated 25 years of their Strategic Partnership in 2025. The co-chairs launched a logo to commemorate the 75th anniversary.

Discussions covered the full spectrum of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, defence and security, technology, green and sustainable development, mobility, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides agreed to further deepen and diversify cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, defence, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation, and development cooperation in third countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on key regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Foreign Secretary Misri interacted with senior foreign policy experts, Members of Parliament, and officials from Germany’s federal and state governments at Körber Foundation.

The consultations were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The visit followed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s trip to India in January 2026, which gave significant momentum to bilateral ties. It also helped advance cooperation ahead of the next India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations scheduled later this year.
