DRDO Achieves Breakthrough with Successful VSHORADS Missile System Flight-Tests

New Delhi : In a significant achievement, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three consecutive flight-tests of the Very Short-Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) missile system. The tests, held at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha, demonstrated the system’s capability to neutralize aerial threats, including drones.
The VSHORADS missile system showcased its precision and effectiveness by intercepting and destroying high-speed targets flying at very low altitude. The tests were conducted in a realistic deployment scenario, with two field operators handling the system.
The successful flight-tests were witnessed by senior officials from DRDO, the Armed Forces, and industry partners. The data captured during the tests confirmed the system’s accuracy and reliability.
The VSHORADS missile system is a Man Portable Air Defence system designed and developed by DRDO’s Research Center Imarat in collaboration with other laboratories and partners. The system meets the requirements of all three branches of the Armed Forces: the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat congratulated the DRDO team, users, and industry partners on this achievement, hailing it as a significant breakthrough in India’s defence capabilities.
