India, China Agree to Resume Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in 2025

Beijing: In a significant development, India and China have decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025. The decision was made during Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri’s visit to Beijing on January 26-27, where he held talks with Chinese officials to review bilateral relations.

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage for Hindus, has been suspended since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The resumption of the yatra is a positive step towards rebuilding ties between the two nations.

India and China also agreed to promote people-to-people exchanges, including media and think-tank interactions. They also agreed in principle to resume direct air services between the two countries, with technical authorities set to meet to negotiate an updated framework.

The two sides recognized the significance of 2025, which marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China. To commemorate this occasion, they will conduct a number of activities to promote mutual understanding and trust.

During his visit, Foreign Secretary Misri called on several high-ranking Chinese officials, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Liu Jianchao.

The resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a significant development in India-China relations, and is expected to boost people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.
