India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 Kicks Off in Auli
India-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2024 commenced today at Surya Foreign Training Node in Auli, Uttarakhand, and will run from September 30 to October 13, 2024. This annual exercise, held since 2016, aims to enhance joint military capabilities in counter-terrorism operations under the United Nations Charter.
The Indian Armed Forces are represented by 120 personnel from the KUMAON Regiment, Indian Army, and Indian Air Force. Kazakhstan’s contingent comprises personnel from Land Forces and Air Borne Assault Troopers.
The exercise focuses on operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, with objectives including enhanced physical fitness, refined tactical-level drills, and shared best practices. Tactical drills include joint response to terrorist actions, establishing joint command posts, securing helipad/landing sites, combat free fall, Special Heliborne Operations, Cordon and Search operations, and employment of drones and counter-drone systems.
KAZIND-2024 enables both sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for joint operations. It facilitates inter-operability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between the two armies, enhancing defence cooperation and bilateral relations between India and Kazakhstan.
