India’s Anti-Naxal Campaign Gathers Momentum: 6 Districts Remain

New Delhi: In a significant achievement, India has successfully reduced the number of districts most affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) from 12 to 6. This milestone marks a major breakthrough in the country’s efforts to build a Naxal-free Bharat.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah stated that the government is committed to eradicating Naxalism by March 31, 2026. The total number of LWE-affected districts in the country stands at 38, categorized into three groups: Most Affected Districts, Districts of Concern, and Other LWE-affected Districts.

The six most affected districts include four from Chhattisgarh (Bijapur, Kanker, Narayanpur, and Sukma), one from Jharkhand (West Singhbhum), and one from Maharashtra (Gadchiroli). Additionally, the number of Districts of Concern has decreased from 9 to 6, with affected districts located in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana. The number of Other LWE-affected Districts has also reduced from 17 to 6.

To support the development of these districts, the government has provided financial assistance under the Special Central Assistance (SCA) scheme. Special projects are also being implemented to address specific needs in these areas.

The significant improvement in the LWE scenario can be attributed to the establishment of new security camps in insurgency-affected areas and development-oriented initiatives. These initiatives include expanding roads, transport facilities, water, electricity, and other welfare schemes, ultimately reaching the villagers and promoting overall development.
