India’s Light Tank Fires with Precision at High Altitude
New Delhi: In a significant milestone, India’s Light Tank (ILT) has successfully demonstrated its firing capabilities at high altitudes, paving the way for its deployment in remote and inaccessible areas.
The ILT, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), has undergone rigorous testing, including high-altitude trials at over 4,200 meters. The trials, conducted in collaboration with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, demonstrated the tank’s consistent accuracy and reliability.
The ILT is a 25-ton class armoured fighting vehicle designed to meet the requirements of the Armed Forces for high-altitude applications. Its development is a testament to India’s growing defence capabilities and its commitment to self-reliance.
The successful trials were welcomed by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, who congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, and Larsen & Toubro Precision Engineering & Systems, the industry partner responsible for manufacturing the ILT.
The ILT’s airlift capability, demonstrated by the Indian Air Force, showcases its potential for quick deployment in remote areas, enhancing India’s defence preparedness.
The successful high-altitude trials mark a significant step towards the ILT’s induction into the Armed Forces. The tank will undergo additional trials before being offered for user trials, further demonstrating its capabilities and reliability.
