Kanger Valley National Park Takes First Step Towards UNESCO World Heritage Status

In a significant achievement, Chhattisgarh’s Kanger Valley National Park has been included in UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites, recognizing its unique biodiversity and cultural significance.

Located in the Bastar region, the park boasts an impressive array of flora and fauna, including rare animals and over 900 plant species. Its limestone caves, such as Kotamsala, Kailash, and Dandak, are geological wonders with archaeological significance.

This recognition is expected to boost tourism and employment opportunities in the region, while also preserving the cultural heritage of the local tribes. The park’s inclusion in the UNESCO list is a testament to India’s rich natural and cultural diversity.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dego Sai hailed the achievement, stating that it would open up new possibilities for the state. As Kanger Valley National Park moves forward in the UNESCO selection process, it is poised to become a prominent tourist destination, showcasing India’s natural and cultural heritage to the world.

Kanger Valley is more than just a forest – it’s an enchanting world that transports visitors to a mystical realm. The park is home to over 15 mysterious limestone caves, including Kotamsar, Kailash, and Dandak, which are not only breathtaking geological formations but also treasure troves of archaeological secrets.

This verdant paradise is inhabited by a diverse array of rare and exotic wildlife, including otters, mouse deer, giant squirrels, Lethis softshell turtles, and wild wolves. The skies are filled with the vibrant songs of over 200 bird species, while the forest floor is carpeted with a kaleidoscope of over 900 plant species. Meanwhile, more than 140 species of butterflies flit about, adding splashes of color to this already dazzling landscape.

In every sense, Kanger Valley is a fairy tale world, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the beauty of nature reigns supreme.
