Maldives Defence Minister Meets Rajnath Singh in New Delhi
New Delhi: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and Maldives Defence Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon held bilateral discussions in New Delhi.
The discussions focused on realizing the joint vision for India-Maldives Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. Singh reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives’ defence preparedness, including providing defence platforms and assets, as part of India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and SAGAR vision.
Maumoon appreciated India’s role as the ‘First Responder’ for the Maldives and assistance in modernizing the country’s defence infrastructure and training its personnel.
This visit marks Minister Maumoon’s first official trip to India and is part of ongoing high-level engagements between the two nations. The meeting has provided an opportunity to further deepen bilateral defence and security ties, benefiting both countries and the Indian Ocean Region.
India handed over defence equipment and stores to the Maldives, further solidifying their partnership.
