Praveer Ranjan Assumes Charge as Director General of CISF

New Delhi: Praveer Ranjan, took over as the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) today.
Praveer Ranjan is an IPS officer of the 1993 batch from the AGMUT Cadre, and has been on central deputation since April 2024. Prior to assuming the top post at CISF, he served as Special Director General overseeing the sensitive Airport Security sector of the Force. His appointment as Director General, CISF, underscores his profound expertise and experience in policing and national security.
Praveer Ranjan boasts an impressive academic portfolio. He holds a Postgraduate degree in History from Delhi University, a Master’s in Police Management from Osmania University, a Master’s in Public Management from the National University of Singapore & Harvard University, and an LL.M. from the National Law University, New Delhi.
With a distinguished career spanning 32 years, Ranjan has held several pivotal positions. These include serving as Special Commissioner of Police (Crime & Economic Offences Wing), Delhi Police; Deputy Inspector General, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI); Director General of Police, Chandigarh (from August 19, 2022, to March 15, 2024); and Additional Director General, CISF, before assuming the DG role.
Praveer Ranjan is a recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (2016) and the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (2009). He is the 32nd Director General of CISF, inheriting a legacy of securing vital national installations.
The assumption of charge was marked by a ceremonial Guard of Honour at CISF Headquarters, followed by an interaction with senior officers of the Force. In his address, Director General Ranjan emphasized his commitment to prepare the Force for future challenges through modernization in operations, welfare with compassion and transparency in administration.
He also reiterated CISF’s dedication to implementing directives of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs on priority, aligning with national objectives.
With his rich policing experience, profound academic background, and proven leadership, CISF under Praveer Ranjan’s stewardship is poised to scale new heights in securing India’s critical infrastructure and achieving significant milestones in its mission.
