INS Sutlej Wraps Up Key Hydrographic Survey Mission in Mauritius

Indian Naval Ship (INS) Sutlej has successfully completed a joint hydrographic survey with the Mauritius Hydrographic Service, covering approximately 35,000 square nautical miles in a testament to India-Mauritius maritime cooperation. Conducted under an existing MoU between the two nations, the survey will significantly bolster marine charting, coastal regulation, resource management, and environmental planning—critical for Mauritius’s Blue Economy ambitions.
As part of capacity-building efforts, six personnel from various Mauritian ministries received hands-on training onboard INS Sutlej in modern hydrographic techniques, enhancing local expertise. The ship also conducted joint EEZ surveillance and anti-piracy patrols with the Mauritius National Coast Guard, reinforcing regional maritime security and trust.
Diplomatic Milestone & Shared Vision
At a ceremony onboard, the survey’s fairsheet was formally handed over to Mauritian authorities by Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Abdul Razack Mohamed, Minister of Housing and Lands, and Anurag Srivastava, High Commissioner of India to Mauritius. This marks the 18th joint hydrographic mission between India and Mauritius, underscoring a longstanding partnership focused on safe navigation, sustainable ocean management, and regional cooperation.
The mission aligns with the MAHASAGAR vision Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Region—reaffirming deep-rooted bonds between India and Mauritius. The collaboration not only advances scientific data-sharing but also supports Mauritius in achieving Blue Economy goals, ensuring secure and sustainable use of marine resources.
