Indian Navy, Bangladesh Navy Conduct Joint Patrol in Bay of Bengal

New Delhi: A joint naval exercise, Exercise Bongosagar 2025 and Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT), conducted by the Indian Navy and the Bangladesh Navy in the Bay of Bengal. The exercise, which took place from March 10 to 12, 2025, aimed to enhance interoperability and cooperation between the two navies in addressing shared maritime security challenges.

INS Ranvir from the Indian Navy and BNS Abu Ubaidah from the Bangladesh Navy participated in the exercise, which involved a range of complex operations. These included surface firing, tactical maneuvers, underway replenishment, and Visit-Board-Search-Seizure (VBSS) cross-boarding operations.

The exercise provided an opportunity for both navies to develop closer links in tactical planning, coordination, and information sharing. This enhanced synergy will enable the two navies to undertake seamless maritime operations, responding swiftly and effectively to emerging threats at sea.

This exercise aligns with India’s Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) initiative, which aims to promote maritime cooperation and security in the Indian Ocean region.
