Canada, India Discuss Supply Chain Resilience, Critical Sectors

New Delhi: India and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their economic partnership, focusing on sustainable growth, innovation, and supply chain resilience. The 7th Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) was held in New Delhi, co-chaired by India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development Maninder Sidhu.

The dialogue was part of the direction provided by the Prime Ministers of the two countries during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G7 meeting in Kananaskis, Canada, and the Foreign Ministers’ Joint Statement on October 13, 2025, which identified trade as the cornerstone of bilateral economic growth and resilience.

India-Canada trade in goods and services reached $23.66 billion in 2024, with a 10% increase in merchandise trade, valued at $8.98 billion. The Ministers welcomed the steady expansion of two-way investment flows, supporting tens of thousands of jobs in both economies.

The Ministers identified areas for collaboration in critical minerals, clean energy, aerospace, and dual-use capabilities, leveraging Canada’s established presence in India and India’s growing aviation sector.

The Ministers emphasized strengthening resilience in critical sectors, including agriculture, and highlighted the need for diversified and reliable supply chains for long-term economic stability.

The Ministers agreed to sustained ministerial engagements with the trade and investment community in both countries early next year, supporting people-to-people ties and elevating the economic partnership to reflect global developments and evolving supply chain and trade dynamics.

The dialogue reflects a renewed phase of engagement, aiming to reinvigorate bilateral trade and investment ties, and setting a forward-looking agenda for cooperation.
