Amit Shah Presents President’s Colours to Puducherry Police
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday presented the President’s Colours to the Puducherry Police in recognition of its distinguished service.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said Puducherry stands as a living symbol of South India’s spiritual and cultural ethos. He noted that with the conferment of the President’s Colours, the Puducherry Police has joined the select group of police forces in the country to receive the nation’s highest honour for service.
“The President’s Colours are a testament to the bravery, hard work and dedication of the Puducherry Police,” Amit Shah said. “This force is entrusted with protecting Puducherry, ensuring internal security and safeguarding its honour. This recognition comes in appreciation of its valour, service and commitment.”
The Home Minister highlighted Puducherry’s unique history, saying that despite a long period under French rule, the territory preserved its Indian identity and spiritual strength.
He recalled that the post of Director General of Police was created in Puducherry on October 1, 1963, and since then the force has played a key role in strengthening security in this border region.
Amit Shah said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government has replaced British-era penal codes with three new criminal laws.
“These laws are not only about punishment. Their aim is to deliver justice to citizens in a technology-driven, time-bound manner,” he said. “They rest on three pillars: Technology, Timeline and Trust.”
The Union Minister said the Modi Government has taken several steps over the last 12 years to strengthen Union Territories, with a special focus on Puducherry.
He listed key projects including the four-laning of National Highway 332-A at a cost of ₹2,200 crore and the construction of an extended runway measuring 3,400 metres by 45 metres.
Citing funding figures, Amit Shah said Puducherry received ₹3,500 crore from 1950 to 2014. From 2014 to 2026, the Central Government has provided ₹13,762 crore — nearly four times the earlier amount. Over the last nine years, industrial investments worth ₹39,000 crore have also been facilitated in the territory.
He added that citizens have benefited from Central schemes such as Lakhpati Didi, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat, toilet construction, free foodgrain distribution, Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Direct Benefit Transfer.
“Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Government of India is fully committed to Puducherry’s development and remains ready to serve its people 24×7,” Amit Shah said.
