ITBP pays tribute to martyrs at National Police Memorial, DG meets 73 families

NEW DELHI: The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) paid tribute to its fallen personnel at a ceremony at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on Wednesday, with families of 73 martyrs in attendance.
Director General Shatrujeet Kapur and Bharati Kapur, chairperson of the Himveer Wives Welfare Association (HWWA), laid floral wreaths at the memorial. A ceremonial salute and Shok Shastra reverse arms drill were performed, followed by a performance by the ITBP band, organisers said in a statement.
In one of the largest such gatherings organised by the force, families of 73 ITBP martyrs from across the country were invited to honour their relatives who died in the line of duty, the ITBP said.
Prior to the ceremony, Kapur and the HWWA chairperson met individually with all 73 families, heard their grievances and assured prompt resolution and continued support, according to the release.
“The Force will stand firmly by their side in every circumstance,” Kapur told the families, reaffirming ITBP’s commitment to welfare of martyrs’ families. The families were also felicitated for their resilience and sacrifice.

The DG, senior officers, families and guests later offered tributes at the Wall of Valour at the National Police Memorial.
Earlier in the day, ITBP personnel donated around 100 units of blood at a camp organised at the memorial, the statement said.
The ceremony concluded with a video presentation on ITBP operations and sacrifices along India’s border areas. Families were also taken on a sightseeing tour of Delhi, organisers said.
ITBP, which guards India’s border with China, is deployed in some of the country’s most challenging high-altitude terrains.
