Chhattisgarh eyes national Ayurveda hub, CM meets Amit Shah

NEW DELHI — Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, discussed to establish an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Chhattisgarh.

The meeting at Kartavya Bhavan focused on developing Chhattisgarh into a national hub for Ayurvedic medicine, research and higher education. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also attended.

Sai told Shah that the All India Institutes of Ayurveda in New Delhi and Panaji have become centers of excellence for Ayurveda-based medicine, research and innovation. He said the institutes have advanced healthcare by integrating modern science with traditional practices and have trained numerous Ayurvedic physicians and researchers.

The chief minister said Chhattisgarh’s forests contain rare medicinal plants and herbs, and tribal regions hold a rich heritage of traditional medical knowledge. An AIIA in the state, he said, could elevate Ayurvedic medicine and research.

Sai said the institute would provide high-quality healthcare to state residents and offer youth opportunities for study, teaching and research at a national-level institution. It would boost Ayurveda-based medical education and help Chhattisgarh build an identity in health, education and research, he said.

The benefits would extend beyond Chhattisgarh to Central India, with neighboring states able to access treatment and research facilities, Sai said.

He cited the Union Budget 2026 announcement of three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda nationwide and requested that one be allocated to Chhattisgarh. The institute would strengthen healthcare, employment, research and knowledge-based development in the state, he said.

Sai also briefed Shah on development work, infrastructure expansion and public welfare schemes in remote areas, including Bastar.

Shah appreciated the state’s development and public welfare efforts and assured all possible support from the central government, according to the chief minister’s office.
