US, India Bolster Counternarcotics Partnership
New Delhi, India – The United States and India strengthened their counternarcotics partnership during the fifth annual US-India Counternarcotics Working Group meeting, held October 23-24.
The meeting built upon President Biden and Prime Minister Modi’s June 2023 commitment to enhance bilateral drug policy cooperation. It follows the signing of the US-India Drug Policy Framework for the 21st Century in September 2024.
US-India Counternarcotics Working Group kicked off with opening remarks by Director General Anurag Garg and Deputy Director Monika Ashish Batra of the Narcotics Control Bureau, alongside Dr. Gupta and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti.
US and Indian officials outlined strategies to combat illicit drug production and trafficking, advance holistic public health solutions, and secure the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The US delegation was led by the National Drug Control Policy and included representatives from the National Security Council, Department of State, and Department of Justice. India’s Narcotics Control Bureau led the Indian delegation.
This diverse representation underscored the comprehensive approach to countering narcotics trafficking and promoting public health.
