Indian Army Cracks Down on Insurgency in Manipur, Recovers Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition
New Delhi- In a significant blow to insurgent groups in Manipur, the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, conducted two successful joint operations on September 21, 2024, resulting in the recovery of a large cache of illegal arms and war-like stores.
The operations, aimed at demilitarizing the local population and promoting peace in the region, were carried out in Churachandpur district, as well as the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts.
A combined search operation in the heavily forested upper reaches of Thangjing Ridge in Churachandpur District led to the recovery of two 9 mm pistols, two pistol magazines, a single-barrel rifle, two locally fabricated rockets, a modified long-range mortar, two modified medium-range mortars, four mortar bombs, nine rounds of 9 mm ammunition, 6.2 kilograms of Grade Two explosives, and other war-like stores.
In another operation, a search at Changbi Village, at the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts, resulted in the recovery of two carbine machine guns, two pistols, a single-barrel gun, nine hand grenades, eleven rounds of small arms ammunition, and other war-like stores.
The successful recovery of these arms and explosives underscores the effective coordination between the Indian Army and local law enforcement agencies, demonstrating their shared commitment to ensuring regional safety and security.
All recovered arms and war-like stores have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This operation is part of the Indian Army’s ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and disrupt insurgent activities.
