Indian Army Gets Major Boost with Induction of SANJAY Battlefield Surveillance System

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the SANJAY Battlefield Surveillance System (BSS) from South Block, New Delhi. This cutting-edge system is designed to enhance the Indian Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

Developed jointly by the Indian Army and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), SANJAY is an automated system that integrates inputs from various ground and aerial sensors. It processes this data to provide a comprehensive and accurate picture of the battlefield, enabling commanders to make informed decisions.

The SANJAY system boasts state-of-the-art sensors and advanced analytics, allowing it to monitor vast land borders, detect intrusions, and assess situations with unparalleled accuracy. This will significantly enhance the Indian Army’s operational capabilities, particularly in conventional and sub-conventional operations.

The induction of SANJAY is a major step towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence technology. The system will be deployed in all operational Brigades, Divisions, and Corps of the Indian Army in three phases, starting from March 2025. This development is part of the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) ‘Year of Reforms’ initiative.

The project has been undertaken under the Buy (Indian) category, with a total cost of Rs 2,402 crore. The flagging-off ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.

With the induction of SANJAY, the Indian Army is poised to take a significant leap forward in its ISR capabilities, enhancing its operational effectiveness and national security.
