NIA raids gang associates of Goldy Brar in Punjab
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at nine locations across Punjab on Thursday, targeting associates of gangster Goldy Brar. This comes a day after the NIA chargesheeted Brar in a separate murder case.
The raids were linked to an extortion and firing case registered in Chandigarh earlier this year. The NIA is seeking information from the public about Brar and his associates, including details of any threats received from the gang. Informers’ identities will be kept confidential.
Crackdown on Terrorist Activities
This operation is part of the NIA’s ongoing investigation into criminal-terrorist activities in India (case RC-03/2024/NIA/DLI). The searches covered districts like Mohali, Patiala, Hoshiarpur, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Incriminating evidence, including digital devices, was seized.
Goldy Brar’s Alleged Activities
The NIA alleges that Brar, along with an accomplice named Goldy from Rajpura, plotted extortion schemes targeting businessmen in Punjab and Chandigarh. They are also accused of supplying weapons and ammunition to gang members, drug smuggling, and money laundering from drug sales.
NIA Seeks Public Help
NIA Investigations suggest Brar and his associates abroad recruited young people for their criminal activities. These activities included identifying extortion targets, carrying out threatening acts, and involvement in drug and weapon trafficking.
The NIA continues its efforts to dismantle this terrorist-gangster network operating within the country.
